Successful start to awards season

BENT on Food had a successful start to the awards season with three medals in the 2011 Mudgee Fine Food Show.

This is the first time the business has entered its product range into any show and owner Donna Carrier is thrilled with the result.

"We were notified this morning and I couldn't be happier" said Donna.

Bent on Food Strawberry and Vanilla Jam and the yet to be released Bent on Food Sweet Tomato Relish were both awarded a silver medal, with Bent on Food Spicy Beetroot Relish gaining a bronze.

Recently the café was thrilled to receive notification of its place in the new Lonely Planet East Coast Australia Travel Guide.

Below is an excerpt from the media release issued by Lonley Planet.

"Australia's best dining scene is now in New South Wales, according to Lonely Planet's new East Coast Australia Travel Guide.

"Sydney used to come second to Melbourne in the culinary stakes," the guidebook says, "but in recent years a thoroughbred line-up of chefs, restaurateurs and artisan producers have made the dining scenes in Sydney, the Blue Mountains and the Hunter Valley the most exciting in the country." (p.46)

The new guide recommends Icebergs Dining Room & Bar and Bécasse (both in Sydney), Solitary (Blue Mountains), Margan (Hunter Valley) and Bent on Food (Wingham in the Mid North coast) as some of the best places to eat in NSW.

Bent on Food owner Donna Carrier said she was thrilled to be named amongst some of the finest eating establishments in NSW.

"I am extremely happy with the result especially as the writer dined anonymously in the café," said Donna.

Bent on Food also won gold in the Restaurant and Catering Category at the 2011 North Coast Tourism Awards. The results were announced at a gala dinner in Grafton.

Bent on Food also took gold in the Specialised Tourism Services Category in the tourism awards.
