LOCAL MEDIA RELEASE                                                       01 May 2013

James Johnston 50 gigs, 50 days, 5 states and a very special visit to his home town.

James Johnston and The Drift could be on the most ambitious journeys in Australian touring history. With nothing but a van and a travelling stage, the singer/songwriter and his fellow travellers are on a mission to test the mental and physical boundaries of a musician. Over consecutive 50 days, he will play 50 shows, across 5 states in a journey that will take James far beyond anywhere he's been before. He will drive, play, eat and sleep across the length and breadth of Australia to test himself against the elements to raise funds and awareness for the Australian Children’s Music Foundation.

As a musical voyage, it's a test of endurance that few other than Johnston would attempt. Having toured the country for four years straight with nothing but a guitar for company, James Johnston has been a lone traveller. In that time he's driven 250,000km, played close to 1000 gigs, rescued 3 koalas, broken down, been towed more times than he cares to remember and has captivated all that have seen him. Now with The Drift, James Johnston will set off on May 5th from Brisbane's iconic

Caxton Street Festival, then they will push further and deeper into the unknown of Australia.

Supported by outstanding youngsters Josh McCartney and Matt Graham, James will literally be popping up in Northern Territory, Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria and South Australia, and will return to Brisbane for his 50th and final show. The boys will also be visiting a number of schools in their travels to work with and help promote the outstanding work of the ACMF. On Monday June 10, James will be visiting his home town of Wingham to play back at his local café Bent on Food.

“I really wanted to play at Bent on Food, as this was one of the venues I played at on a number of occasions before Idol.  It is great to see local venues supporting local musicians.” Said James.

Only in his early 20's but an industry veteran of no less than 8 years, James Johnston has matured into one of the country's true singer/songwriters. James has gone from drawing teenagers on commercial television to drawing comparisons with the likes of Ryan Adams & Jeff

Buckley. Having worked with some of the most credible names on the biggest stages in the country, Johnston has seen the ebbs and flows of life as a travelling musician.

James will be releasing “I will not wait”, a song that is a renaissance of sorts for the well-worn artist. Self-produced and recorded in a basement just outside Brisbane, the focus for Johnston was  to find his own sound, "It's the idea that I'm not a kid anymore... people aren't shocked when I'm drinking a beer and I had to start sounding like that."
